Agios Georgios Pegeia Archaeological Site

The Agios Georgios Pegeia Archaeological Site is located near Pegeia Village, which is within the Paphos district of Cyprus.

According to the Agios Georgios, Pegeia - Cape Drepanon brochure, "Agios Georgios (Saint George) at Pegeia is a well-known pilgrimage site in Pafos, on Drepanon (Cyprus' western cape), and corresponds to that of Saint Andrew on the island's eastern cape.  Between 1952-1955, the Cyprus Department of Antiquities excavated three Early Christian basilicas and a bath-house on the cape.  A continuation of the excavations by the Hellenic Archaeological Expedition has revealed adjacent structures in basilicas...has linked the buildings with the funeral monuments and demonstrated that on this site, in Roman and Early Christian times, there was an unfortified settlement which flourished...and was gradually abandoned in the first half of the 7th century."
