Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque

The Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque is located on the banks of the Larnaca Salt Lake, about 6 km from the city of Larnaca, within the Larnaca district of Cyprus.

According to tradition, Umm Haram, who was the foster mother of Mohammed, died in an accident while visiting Cyprus in 657 AD.  She was buried near the same place that she died, and the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque eventually was built over her tomb and in her memory.

In 1816 and 2002, the mosque was renovated and reconstructed.  Within the current complex, there's the tomb of Umm Haram, ancient settlements ruins, etc.  From the mosque, there are views of the Larnaca Salt Lake.

While exploring the Larnaca Salt Lake, the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque is one place to visit.
