Kalavasos Village

Kalavasos Village is located about 6 km from Zygi Village and 40 km from the city of Larnaca, within the Larnaca district of Cyprus.

This village existed during medieval times with the names of Calavaso and Calavato.

Within Kalavasos Village, there's the Panagia Theotokos Church, which was built in 1910, and it serves as the main Greek Orthodox church in the village.  Nearby, there's a Turkish Mosque, which was built in the 19th century, but it was deserted in 1967, when most the Turkish Cypriot residents moved from Kalavasos Village to Mari Village.

The Kalavasos Mines (also known as the Asgata Mines) are old mines situated near the village.  These copper mines were in operation on and off, from ancient times until 1978.

Other sites near Kalavasos Village, which will all be featured in upcoming blog posts, are the Kalavasos-Tenta Archaeological Site, Kalavasos Train Park, and Kalavasos Dam.

The Kalavasos Village is an interesting area to explore, particularly for the locals and tourists that plan to visit the nearby sites.
