Limassol Municipal Gardens

The Limassol Municipal Gardens are located near the Mediterranean Sea in the city of Limassol, which is within the Limassol district of Cyprus.

The Limassol Gardens include pathways and playgrounds, as well as host various events throughout the year.  Every September, the Limassol Wine Festival is hosted at the Limassol Municipal Gardens, and this wine festival will be featured in a future blog post.

Within the Limassol Gardens, there's an entrance to the Limassol Municipal Zoo, which has been recently renovated and reconstructed into a modern zoo.  The Limassol Zoo will be featured in a future blog post.

In 1911, two stone lion statues were placed at the Limassol Gardens' south entrance.  Within the gardens, there are other statues commemorating Cypriot historical figures, including Christodoulos Sozos and Nicos Nicolaides.

Sozos is considered a hero in Cyprus, since this former mayor of Limassol died in December 1912, while fighting for Cypriot freedom.  In June 1915, the bust of Sozos was added to the Limassol Gardens.  Nicolaides was a writer from Limassol, who lived from 1884 to 1956.

The Limassol Municipal Gardens are a pleasant place to explore, particularly for those visiting the Limassol Municipal Zoo or attending the Limassol Wine Festival.
